Reading Curriculum

Aunty Montessori’s Reading uses the Montessori Pink Series Curriculum to introduce early reading through a phonetic approach, starting with the use of sandpaper letters to teach letter sounds and formation. Children then progress to the large movable alphabet, where they build simple, three-letter phonetic words. As they gain confidence, they move on to reading and writing three-letter word tags and simple sentences with the pink attached sentence strips and pink detached sentence strips. By the end of the series, children are able to read short, phonetic storybooks, laying a strong foundation for fluent reading. This reading curriculum is available for immediate PDF download.

Learning Outcome:

Early writing and fine motor skills are developed through activities such as tracing sandpaper letters and drawing using insets for design, which strengthen hand control and coordination. These exercises allow children to practice proper pencil grip and refine their hand muscles, essential for later writing tasks. The tactile experience of forming letters and shapes builds confidence and prepares them for more complex writing skills.

Learning Outcome:

Letter recognition and phonetic awareness are introduced using multisensory materials, such as sandpaper letters and phonetic objects. As children trace each letter, they connect its shape to the corresponding sound, reinforcing their understanding of phonics. This process creates a strong foundation for reading and spelling, helping children recognize and produce sounds effectively.

Learning Outcome:

Word building is encouraged through hands-on activities where children use movable alphabet letters to form simple, phonetically correct words. This method allows children to experiment with sound combinations, reinforcing the connection between letters and spoken language. By building words, children gain a sense of accomplishment and begin to understand the structure of language.

Learning Outcome:

Vocabulary development and phonetic practice are interwoven in the Pink Series through interactive activities, such as matching words to objects and repeating sounds. Children are introduced to new vocabulary through context, often in stories or with picture cards, helping them understand word meanings. Repeating words and sounds helps children strengthen their phonemic awareness and expands their vocabulary.
